By a News Reporter-Staff News Editor at Journal of Engineering -- Investigators discuss new findings in Materials Engineering. According to news reporting originating from Hubei, People's Republic of China, by VerticalNews correspondents, research stated, "Nano-alpha-Al2O3/CoSb3 composites with different alpha-Al2O3 contents were prepared by spark plasma sintering. The effects of alpha-Al2O3 addition on the microstructure, the thermoelectric properties, and the mechanical properties were studied in this article."
Our news editors obtained a quote from the research from the Wuhan University of Technology, "It is found that alpha-Al2O3 nanoparticles locate mainly at grain boundaries of the matrix. The dispersed particles decrease both the electrical conductivity and the thermal conductivity, but make the Seebeck coefficient increase. The dimensionless figure of merit is nearly unchanged by the dispersion. However, the introduction of nano-alpha-Al2O3 is very effective in improving the mechanical performance of the composites."
According to the news editors, the research concluded: "The compressive strength and flexural strength of the 1.0 wt.% nano-alpha-Al2O3 dispersed samples are improved by 42.7 and 52.0%, respectively, compared with the nondispersed samples."
