Cuban-born trumpet master Arturo Sandoval, reality TV singing groupForte, high-flying act Cirque de la Symphonie and authors DorisKearns Goodwin and Anna Deveare Smith will highlight 2014's editionof Festival of the Arts Boca, according to festival officials.
And dance returns to the Mizner Park festival, known mostly for itsmusical and literary offerings, with the addition of a performanceby New York's renowned Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company.
The festival will be held March 6-15, 2014.
Grammy- and Emmy-award-winning Sandoval will be part of a tributeconcert to his mentor, be-bop pioneer Dizzy Gillespie, with specialguest Monica Mancini and the Henry Mancini Institute Orchestra.Sandoval's life story was made into an HBO movie, "For Love orCountry," starring Andy Garcia.
Cirque de la Symphonie features a variety of acts -- acrobats,dancers, jugglers, strongmen -- accompanied by a circus andsymphonic score played by the Festival Orchestra Boca.
Forte, which was seen on the show "America's Got Talent," will makeits Florida premiere at the festival, performing its unique,multicultural approach to operatic tenor singing.
Among the literary offerings, the highlights include a talk byGoodwin, who has just released "The Bully Pulpit: TheodoreRoosevelt, William Howard Taft, and the Golden Age of Journalism"and one by Smith, both playwright and actress ("Nurse Jackie").Smith will lecture on "Reclaiming Grace in the Face of Adversity."
Others lecturing include Pulitzer Prize-winning author GeraldineBrooks, Atlantic magazine corrrespondent James Fallows and musicwriter Dan Levitin.
The festival is now offering early bird tickets of $39 for allevents (regular price: $125) through the end of the year.
