Local filmmaker's work at Clinton theater Wednesday

November 5, 2013

Nov. 05--CLINTON -- Local resident and aspiring filmmaker Jason Schaver will present his newest independent film, "Wingman Incorporated," on Wednesday at the Clinton 8 Theater.

Wingman Incorporated is the Fulton native's third independent film, and in his opinion, his best one yet.

"I'm really proud of Wingman; it's by far my best work," Schaver said. "I think people will be surprised by it."

Since the film wrapped with production, Schaver has entered into more than 30 independent film festivals throughout the Midwest and been accepted to six, a feat he says is not common with his style of movies.

"Our acceptance rate is like 40 percent, which is really good for a comedy feature," Schaver said. "A good, or typical, acceptance rate for a full-length comedy feature is about 25 percent."

Not only has Wingman Incorporated been accepted to several film festivals this year, it has also won two independent film awards and been nominated for six.

A majority of the festivals Schaver has attended with Wingman Incorporated have been small scale festivals, but this weekend will be a testament to the films success as he plays a large festival in Lansing, Mich.

The premier at the Clinton 8 Theater on Wednesday will help pay for those travel costs.

"The Clinton 8 Theater showing is kind of like a fundraiser because it costs a lot of money to go to these film festivals," Schaver said. "The last movie I did here did pretty well so I decided to try it again."

Although he is excited for the film to air locally for his friends and family to see, Schaver said his favorite part of premiering the film is watching reactions from strangers in the theater.

"When I'm in the audience I don't even watch the film; I watch the audience and listen for their laughter," Shaver said. "With comedy you can tell if it's working or not because of the laughter. Family will lie to you and tell you it's great, so I really like watching it with strangers, because if they're not laughing you're in trouble."

The film will air at 7 p.m. Wednesday night only at the Clinton 8 Theater.
