A Film Crew From 'The Hollywood Reporter' Recently Visited Hollywood Production Center to Set Up for an Interview With Julie Plec, Writer and Producer of the Popular TV Series 'The Vampire Diaries' and New Series 'The Originals' LOS ANGELES, CA -- (Marketwired) -- 11/05/13 -- The Hollywood Reporter crew recently visited Hollywood Production Center to conduct an interview with Julie Plec, the creator, writer and producer of the popular TV series The Vampire Diaries. Plec has also taken on the task of producing its spinoff, The Originals, which premiered last month on October 3rd.
Hollywood Production Center is the base for The CW network which produces The Vampire Diaries and The Originals. The state of the art technology possessed by HPC draws a variety of big name production companies like The CW, as well as those seeking to make their mark in the entertainment world. A spacious HPC conference room was the perfect backdrop for The Hollywood Reporter interview.
Plec shared that the 1981 movie My Bloody Valentine was one of the scariest movies that she watched as a child and that it helped to influence her passion for the horror genre. She also stated that she was heavily influenced by numerous other '80s horror movies, including Nightmare on Elm Street and Friday the 13th, many of which she watched with other girls at slumber parties.
In 1995, Julie got her break into the horror movie industry as Wes Craven's assistant for the making of the thriller Vampire in Brooklyn starring Eddie Murphy. Through Craven, Plec met Kevin Williamson of Scream fame who became another of her horror mentors. Plec has also helped to create Kyle XY and the British TV series The Tomorrow People which aired October 9th.
Using the production space of Hollywood Production Center, The CW turned Plec and Williamson loose to create The Originals which gleaned 2.15 million viewers its first showing. Plec told The Hollywood Reporter interviewer that between the rise in horror fans and the large number of channels offered on television today, those creating such shows must really explore more imaginative ways to tell the stories in a way that pushes the envelope and includes risks.
