'We won't be gigging until we are completely happy' ; April Towers NOTTINGHAM SOUNDElectronic pop duo April Towers recently released their debut EP, Peaks, but they won't be playing live until they're ready, they tell Simon Wilson

Who is in the band? April Towers consists of two members: Charles Burley and Alex Noble.

What's with the name? We wanted something that would really stick in people's heads.

How Nottingham are you? 100 per cent . We have both lived in Nottingham our entire lives and are just finishing up our final years at university here.

How did April Towers begin? We have been best friends for almost ten years and writing music together for about six. April Towers is a project that we started in June this year, and we put our first track online in mid-August. It's the first time we have both found complete harmony in the music we are making, and I think experimenting with different sounds over the past couple of years has really helped that.

Describe your sound Electronic pop, although we use a range of instrumentation to make us sound interesting, including guitars, organs, xylophones and even vibraphones. You can expect to hear anything from 1980s synthesis to 1990s house beats to the occasional breakbeat - that's what makes our songwriting process so enjoyable.

Who are your biggest influences? We are both big fans of bands like Hot Chip and LCD Soundsystem, older artists like Gary Numan and Depeche Mode, and then more current acts like Santigold, Chvrches and London Grammar. We are also very keen on a lot of under-the- radar artists at the moment including Mons Montis, Pale, Owyl and Pawws.

Any claims to fame? Alex was on The Weakest Link, finishing second. He was pipped at the post on a question about Jackie Stewart. We have also both met Minime from Austin Powers, which is a moment in both our lives that will probably never be eclipsed.

What should we expect at one of your gigs? We are still working on our live show. Electronic music is something that needs a bit more attention to detail in the live arena, so we won't be gigging until we are completely happy.

Any music for sale? We released our debut EP, Peaks, digitally in September. It's available on iTunes, Amazon, etc.

Other Notts musicians/bands you rate? Owyl, Frolikks, Loophole Project, Saint Raymond and Great British Weather.

Where can we listen for free? soundcloud.com/apriltowers.
