Nov. 23--Top television host premieres new game show, 'Picture! Picture!' tonight
Ever at ease with a crowd, top TV host Ryan Agoncillo poked fun at himself when he revealed to the showbiz press on Monday that the last time he worked with GMA-7, the term "Kapuso"--what the network's talents call themselves and their fans--was still non-existent. He was sitting by himself on the huge and impressive set of his new game show, Picture! Picture!, which premieres on the network tonight.
"If you'll remember, GMA's tagline back then was still 'Where You Belong,'" he laughed. "I was part of Unang Hirit among other shows, and that was sometime in 1999 to 2001."
Like many artists, Ryan explored working for other stations, but in the more recent years of his career, made the wise decision to be a freelancer of sorts and took on per-project deals with the major networks. As such, he hosted the highly successful Talentadong Pinoy on TV5 for three outings, while appearing in the gang of the independently produced Eat Bulaga on GMA-7, which he continues to be part of today.
However, just this October, Ryan pulled a big surprise when he had a cameo in the finale episodes of record-breaking drama series My Husband's Lover. Talk was rife that 35-year-old celebrity was finally signing up with, yes, the Kapuso Network.
"That was the plan, originally," he admitted when The Manila Times asked him where his contract presently stands. "But things didn't push through in going exclusive, so I decided to go the same way as the Dabarkads (the gang of Eat Bulaga led by comedians Vic Sotto and Joey de Leon) and again do things on a per-project basis."
Nevertheless, Ryan said he is very excited to be back on the airwaves of GMA-7 and to be part of an original concept at that.
"Just like Talentadong Pinoy, Picture! Picture! is an original production and I'm always excited to be part of something new that we can build on," he enthused. "Being here--being part of this wonderful team--is just like making food from scratch without a recipe and so far, with the episodes we've taped are very promising. Masaya at sa tingin ko, pasok sa panlasa ng mga Pinoy."
The one-hour game shows aims to engage both contestants and viewers in drumming up memories and a wide range of emotions from photographs of from the past and present.
Four contestants play initially play as a team and take their chance to win as much as half a million pesos by correctly answering 10picture aided questions within a time limit of 30 seconds. After a set of three questions, the team must eliminate one member and one winner remains at the end.
"So far, we're featuring celebrity contestants while we introduce the concept to the public," Ryan related. "And happily, they've all enjoyed themselves and find the concept to be exciting as game shows should be."
If indeed he pulls off another successful concept to success, Ryan was asked how many seasons he sees himself staying on with GMA Network?
Before he could reply, a very confident Lilybeth Rasonable, the station's vice president for Entertainment, stood up from her seat in the audience and announced, "Forever!"
Picture! Picture! airs after 24 Oras tonight on GMA Network.
