Nov. 15--You have two nights to see great local, independent films Nov. 15-16.
--On Friday, celebrate 10 years of the i48 Film Competition at the "Best of the Best of i48," a screening of the 10 "Best Of" winning films from the pro category, including Zach Voss' "Beard's Company" and some directors' picks. The i48 competition happens at the end of May. Teams of filmmakers hit the streets armed with a genre, a character, a scrap of dialogue and a prop. Then they write and produce a film in 48 hours.
It's amazing the creativity that can happen in that amount of time. Festival co-directors Andrew Ellis and Josie Pusl will host the show, which will also benefit other nonprofits. Proceeds will be divided up among several Treasure Valley groups. And you can vote on the "Best of the Best" and stick around for music from Hillfolk Noir.
7 p.m. Nov. 15, Egyptian Theatre, 700 W. Main St., Boise. $10. Find out more about the 2014 i48 at Idaho48.org.
--On Saturday, it's "The Best of the Sun Valley Film Festival," with a screening of two of the 2013 winners of audience awards. First you'll see Stuart Acher's "Stuck," a feature-length comedy about a one-night stand that goes awry. Acher will be on hand to introduce his film and answer questions.
Then you'll be chilled by "Craters of the Moon," a tense, atmospheric thriller from Blackfoot writer and director Jesse Millward. In it, a couple wait out a blizzard, stranded in their car as their relationship deteriorates. Millward and the cast will be there for a Q&A.
Wrap things up at a cocktail party for those 21 and older with festival executive director Teddy Grennan and festival director Candice Pate.
Event starts at 5 p.m. (doors open at 4 p.m.) Nov. 16, Knitting Factory, 416 S. 9th St., Boise. $15 at bo.knittingfactory.com or the door.
