In a highly practical session entitled ‘Code Word Errors – What Are They and Why Do You Care,’ Volpe will be joined by ZCorum’s Vice President of Technology,
“DOCSIS codeword errors are the most effective metric to determine if a data issue, like slow web pages, slow gaming, poor voice quality, etc., is an RF plant problem or if it is a data network problem,” said Volpe. “Codeword errors are the deciding factor if providers have RF impairment or if they do not have RF impairment. When asked about the practical applications for codeword errors, Helms explained, "Subscriber experience planning today goes to the very core of the future health and longevity of provider companies. If subscribers are experiencing slow connections, frequent timeouts, dropped VoIP calls and so on, the historical codeword error data can be used to track back to the origin of the problem and reach resolution quicker.”
"Proactively, the monitoring of codeword errors is a forecasting tool or a warning that a problem is building and needs to be investigated. This can make a world of difference in the subscribers’ satisfaction levels as well as in the demands on a provider’s resources," Helms added.
