Telefonica Czech Republic launched a pilot of mPO2S, a mobile POS terminal to accept credit/debit card payments over a mobile phone. It will also accept contactless cards and payments via a mobile phone. The service mPO2S is intended for small and medium-sized entrepreneurs (SME) who cannot afford POS terminals for accepting card payments and thus may be losing a part of their business. The pilot will start in October. Each SME will get the terminal free, and after the pilot they can buy the terminal for a discounted price of CZK 3,999. In the pilot phase the only cost for the entrepreneur will be the transaction fee of 2.79 percent. An entrepreneur who wants to use the terminal also needs a smartphone or a tablet with Android or iOS and an internet connection. It comes with a special application, working as a portable cash register and at the same time providing for communication between the terminal and the bank. The terminal, which serves for the payment itself and for payment receipt for the customer, is connected with the mobile phone via Bluetooth.
Applicants for participation in the pilot may submit their request by email until the end of October. Currently in the Czech Republic there are about 90,000 payment terminals at some 64,000 sales points.
