The Executive Vice President,
Nokia has just launched six sets of Asha and Lumia smartphones into the market. What is the motivating factor for the continuous launch of new mobile phones?
We are motivated by the singular reason that Nokia is a global brand that cuts across all market segments, both in the low and high-end phones in various regions of the world. In order to satisfy our customers in all the market segments and in all the regions of the world where we operate, we decided to be innovative in our smartphone manufacturing, to enable our customers remain on top of the mobile world. For this reason, we just launched the Nokia Asha 500, 502, and 503 models and the Nokia Lumia 1520, 1320, and 2520. The Nokia Lumia 2520 functions both as a mobile phone and tablet, with detachable keyboard, making it the first tablet smartphone to be manufactured by Nokia. Our products are full of innovative designs that always appeal to the sense of aesthetics of our numerous customers. The software technology that we use in designing the phones is also very innovative. For example we have introduced the swipe display mechanism in our phones that displays past, present and future lifestyle of the customer in terms of improved picture quality. With a simple and single swipe on the mobile phone, the customer is able to press anywhere on the screen, to take pictures of different shapes and styles.
The price range for the newly launched smartphones is very close. What could be responsible for this? So many factors are responsible for the close price range, and one of them is the software application types that are embedded in the phones. And again our phones come relatively cheap to enable customers buy with ease.
With the closeness in price range, customers could be confused in their choice of purchase, not knowing what model to buy since they all have little price differentials. How will you want to address this? Pricing will not pose any challenge to customers in making choice of phone. The six sets of phones we have just launched come under two main brand categories, the Nokia Lumia and the Nokia Asha. The Nokia Lumia is our flagship phone. The Nokia Asha phones are like extension of the Lumia phones, and the idea is to give customers various ranges of smartphones to choose from. The closeness in pricing of the various phones will not pose any challenge to customers in making their choice.
What is unique about the quality of the newly-launched phones?
The designs of the newly-launched mobile phones, make them very attractive and durable. The body of the phones are built in layers that are not detachable, and they all come with detachable casings that are hard and attractive. They are smartphones that are affordable to the customer. Some of them come with Gorilla glass, which makes the phone screen very hard and difficult to crack when it drops from a distance, and they are designed as dual-sim phones. Again they all come with long battery lives, which give the user additional comfort, while using the smartphones.
