October 30, 2013

MURDER mystery fans who love to figure out whodunit will be in their element at Llanelli's Phoenix Theatre Group's production of Witness for the Prosecution next month.

Shakespeare and the Bible, according to Agatha Christie's estate, are the only two works that rank higher than the crime fiction writer as far as the world's most widely published books are concer ned.

During her lifetime, the so-called queen of crime was responsible for novels, stage plays and short stories, which have inspired scores of TV, radio and film adaptations.

Although The Mousetrap may be her most famous play, Christie's personal favourite was Witness for the Prosecution, which is widely regarded as her best piece for the theatre.

Ingenuity And Llanelli audiences will have the opportunity of finding out why this is so when the Phoenix Theatre Group takes to the stage at Ffwrnes for the first time.

Director Noel Rees said: Nowhere is Agatha Christie's remarkable ingenuity more evident than in the story of a young man charged for the murder of an elderly lady -- a lady who had recently made a will leaving him a small fortune.

It's the story which shows how an act of kindness brings with it a charge of murder.

So audiences who love courtroom drama with plenty of intrigue, puzzles and suspense will revel in Agatha Christie's Witness for the Prosecution, an undisputed masterpiece of British-style murder. Agatha Christie is at her all-time best with this remarkably- crafted thriller, and Witness for the Prosecution promises to be a crowd pleaser with its many twists and turns, keeping audiences guessing until the thrilling last moments of the play. The show will run for four nights at Ffwrnes from Thursday, November 28 to Saturday, November 30 starting at 7.30pm.
