Huawei, a leading global information and communications technology (ICT) solutions provider, today showcased its SoftCOM achievements and solutions that can be applied to all fields of carrier networks at the Broadband World Forum 2013. In the IP field, Huawei launched its Carrier-Class SDN Controller-SNC, the industry's first carrier-class software-defined networking controller, Huawei's SNC is a unified platform that supports end-to-end scenarios and helps carriers rapidly deploy SDN networks, reduce operating expenses, deploy new services quickly, and accelerate service innovation.
The controller runs an SDN network in a centralized manner, such as centralized service chain control, centralized cloud data center network control, centralized E2E QoS policy control, and provide path optimization to improve the whole network resources utilization, etc. Therefore, the SDN controller is a key component for carriers when deploying SDN in their networks, particularly in relation to the management and control capabilities, scenarios adaptability, network migration capability, reliability, and scalability of the SDN controller.
Huawei's SNC features separate forwarding and control planes, centralized network control, and multi-layer openness and programmability, delivering all the benefits promised by SDN. The SNC is based on an advanced resilient distributed framework (RDF) and supports unlimited control and management scalability with multiple function modules to serve end-to-end SDN scenarios on one platform. Its mature reliability technologies provide carrier-class reliability for SDN networks and it uses unique multidimensional path calculation algorithm and rich southbound interfaces to virtualize and optimize network resources in a centralized manner to simplify network operations and maintenance. It is also equipped with Huawei's Open Programmable System (OPS), which supports multiple programming languages (C, Python, Java, etc.) and abundant open interfaces, such as Restful, to help carriers accelerate network service innovation.
In addition, Huawei's SNC allows carriers to smoothly migrate from their current network to an SDN network by supporting legacy southbound interface and legacy network compatibility. Based on the SNC, Huawei's SDN solutions cover scenarios such as IP RAN, Gi LAN, IP Core, and DC, and fully meet carriers requirements for early SDN commercial deployment.
Gai Gang, President of Huawei's Carrier IP Product Line, said, ''Huawei's SNC announcement marks a major step towards SDN commercialization. Based on Huawei s rich experience and constant innovation in SDN technologies, the SNC will assist carriers in the quick and efficient deployment of SDN networks, to leverage the benefits of SDN."
