By a News Reporter-Staff News Editor at Computer Weekly News -- Balance Innovations has joined Toshiba Global Commerce Solutions as a Together Commerce Alliance Innovation Partner to integrate Balance Innovations' vbScout™ self-checkout management software with Toshiba CHEC software for Toshiba self-checkout units. The integrated software will be available in Q1 2014.
The Toshiba award-winning self-checkout solution is built to support high-volume retail environments with speed and ease, incorporating human factors design and intuitive function with architecture that enables high availability and flexibility for customers. The integration provides real-time access to the cash in and cash out data for each transaction from the Toshiba unit. This allows vbScout to alert bookkeepers to errors (such as jams) and provide notification when unit dispensers are low or acceptors are nearly full. This combination enables retailers to reduce the frequency of balancing the terminals to as little as once a week. When balancing does occur, vbScout eliminates manual errors by guiding bookkeepers through a step-by-step process of balancing and rebuilding each terminal.
The solution eliminates downtime for the customer caused by out-of-cash conditions or full acceptors. In addition, cash is exposed to potential loss less often because units are able to remain locked throughout the day.
"Balance Innovations is a valued partner," said John Gaydac, executive vice president, global sales & professional services, Toshiba Global Commerce Solutions. "Integrating our solutions is a great benefit to our mutual customers and allows them to realize even more value from their investment in self-checkout technology."
"This is a great partnership that will give Toshiba self-checkout users the best of two technologies," said Steve Rempel, president and CEO for Balance Innovations. "The integration will provide users with the information needed to make the most efficient use of their self-checkout units and keep them available for their customers at all times."
