LOS ANGELES, Oct. 23, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- AKA, the innovative brand of luxury serviced residences catering to entertainment industry insiders, executive business travelers, international travelers and locals in need of temporary accommodations, announces today a new division of the brand: a.film. Inspired by the stories of everyday citizens, a.film was developed with the goal of funding and producing an array of carefully selected films that highlight people going against the grain to help mankind.
The first project by a.film is the documentary The Barefoot Artist, Directed by Glenn Holsten and award-winning documentary cinematographer, Daniel Traub, and Executive Produced by AKA.
The Barefoot Artist follows the story of Lily Yeh, a 70 year-old artist who is fueled by the belief that art is a human right, and that it is her responsibility to use art to spark positive and profound social change. The film provides an intriguing portrait of the artist on a more personal level, presenting her private journey within, to repair her own fractured family.
AKA Beverly Hills will host a special screening of The Barefoot Artist on October 29, 2013, which will officially launch a.film and showcase AKA's new state-of-the-art screening room, a.cinema.
"We are thrilled to be able to showcase The Barefoot Artist inside a.cinema and could not have picked a more moving story to kick off AKA's new division: a.film," said Larry Korman, President of AKA. "Our goal with a.film is to produce projects that shine light on truly inspiring human beings and their stories that have yet to be told."
The Korman family has a deep routed passion for film and, over the years, has developed strong relationships with entertainment industry insiders who have come to depend on AKA Luxury Serviced Residences when traveling for an extended period of time.
2013 marked the sixth year that AKA has sponsored the Tribeca Film Festival, and the fourth year that AKA has sponsored the festival's prestigious award for Best Narrative Feature.
AKA is joining forces with BAFTA Los Angeles to host, for the first time, a pre-party for The Britannia Awards, which will be held on November 8, 2013, to bring together Hollywood's business elite. Additional exciting projects with BAFTA LA will be announced later this year.
