Kenya'sNIC Bank has introduced a new mobile application called NIC Now to provider speedier transactions on handheld devices. It is available to NIC customers with Android, IOS, Blackberry and Windows phones. The application will also be made available to smartphone users who receive an activation key and start PIN to access the service. The bank has been running a USSD mobile banking platform, which it plans to phase out in favour of Elma, a system developed by local software company Craft Silicon. It provides increased interactivity with bank accounts and speedier transactions. Elma is not tied to a particular mobile telephony network.
