Oct. 21--Aziz Ansari is not Tom Haverford.
The two may share some of the same bravado, but the young comic is much more self-aware and easygoing than his onscreen persona in the popular TV series "Parks and Recreation."
Ansari started as a standup comedian and, while he has found regular work in television and film, he still gets plenty of laughs in venues across America. His current tour will stop at the University of Wyoming Oct. 26, offering fans a chance to say "I saw him when..."
Ansari began his career in New York in 2000 while attending New York University. His first break came with the critically acclaimed MTV sketch comedy show "Human Giant." From there he began appearing in movies like "Funny People" and "30 Minutes or Less." Those roles led to his work on "Parks and Recreation," which is loved by fans and critics.
Rolling Stone recently named him the funniest man under 30, and he has several comedy specials to prove it. "Intimate Moments for a Sensual Evening" was released in 2010 to rave reviews. His next tour, "Dangerously Delicious," was also a success and became one of the first specials to be self-released online. His current tour is in support of his new album, "Buried Alive," which came out this summer.
Ansari's Twitter feed is like a best-of. He talks about food -- a favorite topic of his -- and pop culture and muses about his future acting roles. He may not have time to come to the phone -- he was not available for an interview before the show -- but if his tweets are any indication, he has plenty to say.
Ask close followers of Ansari's Twitter what he most often posts about and you will get a brief answer: food. The comedian is constantly seeking suggestions and talking about what he is eating:
Sept. 8: Aziz Ansari @azizansari -- Has anyone successfully eaten two full Sausage Egg and Cheese McGriddles? #AmericanHeroes
Oct. 7: Aziz Ansari @azizansari -- Been spending way too much time day dreaming about what it'd be like to eat at Freddy's Ribs from House of Cards...
Ansari can't help but daydream about future acting jobs, no matter how ridiculous:
Oct. 8: Aziz Ansari @azizansari -- Loved Gravity, but disappointed I didn't even get to audition for the role of the goofy Indian astronaut. #MyWheelhouse
July 25: Aziz Ansari @azizansari -- @Pattonoswalt Thoughts on me as Blade?
No matter how funny you are, tweeting isn't always fun:
April 25: Aziz Ansari @azizansari -- New Parks tonight. #ReallyPhoningitInonTweets
Like most comics, Ansari follows the pop culture conversation on Twitter:
June 25: Aziz Ansari @azizansari -- I CAN'T KEEP UP WITH ALL THE SCANDALS, CAN SOMEONE GIVE ME A LIST OF WHAT TO BE MAD ABOUT
June 25: Aziz Ansari @azizansari -- If I was in the NSA, I'd be looking up random people all the time. Every 10 minutes I'd be like, I wonder what Ja Rule is up to?
Oct. 12: Aziz Ansari @azizansari -- Can't believe the Nobel Peace Prize went to Jeff Daniels for his work on The Newsroom. Insane.
