Oct. 02--ABC's "Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.," which had a solid debut last week, was not so marvelous in its second week Tuesday night, according to early numbers from Nielsen.
The series, an offshoot of Joss Whedon's successful "Avengers" feature film, drew 8.4 million viewers, down 30% from last week. The show also had a big drop in the key 18-to-49 age demographic, down 34% to a 3.1 rating. A rating point typically equals 1.3 million viewers.
However, "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." will probably pick up some ground from people watching via digital video recorders and video on demand. ABC projects that the episode will increase its rating to a 4.3, or by 38%, over the next three days.
ABC's new comedies fell from their premieres, too. "The Goldbergs" dropped 29% to a 2.2 and "Trophy Wife" fell 39% to a 1.4. "Lucky 7," about a group of lottery winners, continued to struggle, with 2.81 million viewers and a rating of 0.8.
Despite the declines, ABC is still performing better on Tuesdays than it was last year. The network's 1.9 prime-time rating in the demo was 12% better than the same night last year.
"The Voice" continues to hold out its high notes for NBC. The singing contest, still working through the blind auditions, drew an average of 14.2 million viewers over its two-hour telecast and earned a rating of 4.6 in 18-to-49, down just 2% from last week's Tuesday premiere.
With the big "Voice" lead-in, "Chicago Fire" drew an audience of 9 million and a rating of 2.8, up slightly from last week's season opener. NBC was the highest rated network for the night in the 18-to-49 demo.
CBS' "NCIS" was the most-watched show of the night, with more than 19 million viewers and a rating of 3.4, down about 5% from last week's opener, while "NCIS: Los Angeles" fell 10% to a 2.7. "Person of Interest" fell 13%.
Fox's lineup of new comedies continued to decline, with "Dads" and "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" down double digits. "New Girl" fell 10%, but "The Mindy Project" held steady with last week at a 1.5.
