Transcripts of conversations between a former eThekwini municipality official, who claims he was fired after he exposed corruption, show that he was subjected to abusive language and threats of dismissal from his boss.

Govender, who was fired in 2010, claims false misconduct charges were used to dismiss him after he reported irregularities and corruption occurring within the IT department of the municipal Geographic Information and Policy Office, which was headed by Subban in 2008 and 2009.
Govender has asked the court to order his reinstatement and compensation equivalent to two years' salary.
The municipality had objected to the conversations being used, as they said they had been secretly recorded by Govender and violated the rights of Sutcliffe and Subban.

In one of the transcripts, Subban swears while she is talking to Govender and he claims she banged on her table repeatedly to make her point.
"We are not going to f**** around with this architecture, we going to do it properly."
In the same conversation, Subban also told Govender she would fire him if she did not get what she wanted.
"I will fire you if you don't deliver what I want. I want you to find a plan for active directory and I want you to say in that e-mail, 'You can fire me if this is not delivered'."
Yesterday, during cross-examination, the municipality's advocate Joe Nxusani asked Govender if he had a written record of when he reported the irregularities to the ombudsman's office. Govender replied that he had e-mails of his correspondence with the ombudsman's office, which he believed would be sufficient.
