REDRUTH is hosting a miniversion of the Cornwall Film Festival two weeks before the three-day event kicks off in Newquay.
The mini-festival, which opens on Wednesday, is being seen as a precursor to Redruth staging the main event next year. Redruth town centre development manager Lee Dunkley said he was excited that the event was coming to the town, saying: There were concerns that the Regal Cinema would not be ready in time for the main festival so they decided to run a mini-festival instead.
The festival has been held in Falmouth and Newquay with Redruth seen as its favoured location for 2014, said festival director, Tiffany Holmes.
She said: The idea is that we move around as we area Cornwall- wide festival.
Redruth is central to most areas. As well as screenings in the Regal there will be workshops and guest speakers at St Rumon's Social Club and the Green Rooms in Redruth.
They include those working within the film industry, such as Kieran Evans, Welsh director of Kelly & Victor (2012, UK), and Nick Morris, a director and editor who has made videos for musicians such as Elton John and Celine Dion.
Funded by Feast, Redruth Town Council and Redruth North Parnership, the festival also offers sneak previews of the competition entries for this year's Cine Kernow Award, which celebrates Cornish talent.
Bafta-nominated Nick Dance, director of photography for the past 30 years in TV and film production, who has worked with film legend Al Pacino, will be discussing camera techniques at the event.
James Fulcher, an up and coming film-maker and producer, will be leading a filmmaking workshop for anyone wanting to have a go at making a short film.
The three-day Cornwall Film Festival takes place at Newquay's Lighthouse Cinema from November 8. On November 7 the Lighthouse Cinema is also hosting Screen Action for young film-makers.
