Surface Finishing Cylinder Walls
BRM Flex-Hone® technology uses a soft cutting action and a low-pressure, low-temperature abrading process to produce a substantially flat surface finish with grooves or scratches that promote lubrication. Made with abrasive globules laminated onto the ends of flexible nylon filaments, flexible hones are self-aligning, self-centering, and self-compensating for wear.
Ball hones are ideal for surface finishing cylinder walls. Available in a variety of abrasives, grits, and dimensions, cylinder honing tools mount in handheld electric drills and are easy-to-use. For automated surface finishing, manufacturers can also use Flex-Hone® tools with transfer lines, CNC machine centers, and robotic cells.
Cylinder Deburring and Chamfer Blending
Flexible honing tools are also used for deburring, the process of removing raised particles and metal shavings produced during machining. In addition to cross-hole deburring, Flex-Hone® applications include edge blending and chamfering, which removes micro-burrs and stress risers that can interfere with machined components such as rotating engine parts.
In-Machine Deburring, Edge Radiusing, and Surface Conditioning
BRM NamPower technology is easily integrated into manual and automated equipment for in-machine deburring, edge radiusing, and surface conditioning. These high-performance nylon abrasive brushes are also used for fine blanking, surface preparation, and parts resurfacing. The
