Comicgives rundown on her life ; Comedian Gina Yashere is leaving her Los Angeles home for a short UK tour. She tells ROZ LAWS about stealing an Aston Martin and crying at X Factor Q&A
What can we expect from your new show? My shows don't have themes but I will be doing a rundown of what has been going on in my life, or what has caught my attention in the last two years in both the UK and US - like the Olympics, the Jimmy Savile debacle and my ageing process.
I prefer to keep it open, so I can change the direction of the show depending on what is happening with the audience that day, as I always get fun crowds.
If you were on death row, what would you request for your last meal? I've been a veggie for the last five years, so every type of animal flesh I can stuff in my face. Lamb chops, pig testicles, whatever, followed by a pile of cake and Swiss chocolate.
What's the best thing you've ever stolen? I was commissioned to write and perform a bunch of Las Vegasthemed sketches for Comedy Central a few years back, and wasn't given a specific budget.
I decided to make some of my dreams come true, so wrote sketches where the characters 'stole' an Aston Martin DB9, and a Harley Davidson motorbike. I had a great week at Comedy Central's expense and crossed two things off my bucket list.
When did you last cry? Probably while watching X Factor. It's so contrived but they get me nearly every time with the sob stories. As soon as the sad music kicks in, I'm off.
What is your greatest extravagance? The biggest one was the only new car I've ever owned, a convertible Mercedes. I sat in the showroom with a catalogue, picked the colour of car I wanted, my interior, type of leather etc, they built it, and delivered it three months later. I drive a Toyota now!
Who is your most famous friend? I have a lot of famous acquaintances, but my friends are just regular plebs, and that's how I like it. Fame can be tedious.
What is your favourite TV programme? Breaking Bad! Bryan Cranston is a genius. From Malcolm in the Middle to that? Amazing.
What is your best and worst memories of school? Best memories are school sports days. I was quite the athlete. And getting in with the coolest girl gang in the school.
Worst are falling out with one of the gang, and they all turned on me.
Funny how important these things seem when you're 14. That same gang now buy tickets to my shows.
If you could own only one music album, what would it be? Janet Jackson, Control. Great teenage memories.
What would you say is your worst trait? Apparently, I can be very blunt to the point of being tactless. I call it tough love.
