Texas A&M tied Georgia for No. 5 in the final Associated Press Top 25 college
football poll. The Aggies received 1,230 points. Not bad since A&M received
only five points in the preseason poll which was good for 36th.
Other teams that made big moves this season were: No. 3 Ohio State (No.
18 preseason), No. 4 Notre Dame (No. 26 preseason), No. 7 Stanford (No. 21
preseason), No. 9 Florida (No. 23 preseason), No. 12 Kansas State (No. 12
preseason), No. 13 Louisville (No. 25 preseason), No 16 Utah State (no votes);
No. 17 Northwestern (no votes); No. 20 Oregon State (no votes); 21, San Jose
State (no votes); 22, N. Illinois (a 25-place vote, tied for 41st); No. 23
Vanderbilt (no votes).
Southern Cal, which was No. 1 in the preseason after a second vote
knocked out LSU which dismissed Tyrann Mathieu, took the biggest fall and
didn't get a vote. Other teams that took big falls were: No. 14 LSU (No. 3
preseason), No. 15 Oklahoma (No. 4 preseason); No. 24 Michigan (No. 8
preseason); unranked Arkansas (No. 10 preseason); unranked West Virginia (No.
11 preseason); No. 35 Wisconsin (No. 12 preseason); unranked Michigan State
(No. 13 preseason); unranked Virginia Tech (No. 16 preseason); No. 33 TCU (No.
20 preseason);
