Verizon Offers Small-business Owners Tech Tips to Succeed

As the new year is in full swing, entrepreneurs are planning new ways to make their business prosper. Verizon Wireless technology offers small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) streamlined tools to be more efficient and to start 2013 right.

"Technology makes (SMBs) jobs easier, and there are various applications, or apps, to expedite workflow," said Elva Lima, executive director of public affairs for Verizon Wireless. "A small business needs to focus on their core business and not get caught in the maelstrom of complex processes. Technology, especially mobile technology, is paramount to success of a small business."

Exploring new technologies at Verizon Wireless' Small Business Advisor can help entrepreneurs find the tools and apps to support their business needs.

Because there are hundreds of apps available to SMB owners, the Verizon Wireless Small Business Advisor extracts the right apps, using a structured algorithm, once a user answers a few basic questions about their business needs.

"Instead of a user getting 500 different app results, appropriate-fitting apps are provided to check out and deploy," Ms. Lima said. "Some are free, others paid, but the advisor recommends those that best fit the user."

A variety of enterprises large and small are using Verizon tools, according to Ms. Lima. Hospitals and medical facilities, local landscaping, construction, food and services, and tech start-up companies are logging on to the Small Business Advisor.

Other Verizon tools helpful to business owners include Microsoft Office 365, available as part of Verizon Wireless' Small Business Essentials portfolio. It is a cloud solution that provides access to email, instant messages with video and voice conferencing, and document sharing.

"The cloud is good to have because users have access to all their files," Ms. Lima said. "Many mobile devices have limited storage, so it is a viable option, allowing access whenever, wherever they are with a reliable Internet connection."

To help expand customer base, and increase sales without going through the trouble and expense of traditional credit card systems, Verizon suggests mobile payment systems, such as Intuit GoPayment card reader. The card reader allows small-business owners to accept credit card payments right away and make sales on the road.

Another useful tool while traveling is the Verizon Jetpack, which gives entrepreneurs the ability to connect up to 10 Wi-Fi-enabled devices and share access with the people around them.
