LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM -- (Marketwire) -- 01/15/13 -- Ladies, if your New Year's resolution is to get in shape, then we have the answer for you; gym instructor courses. Becoming a personal trainer is the perfect way to get active in 2013 and a great opportunity to make lots of friends along the way.
However, according to recent figures from the Register of Exercise Professionals (REPs) it appears that of the total 13,770 registered personal trainers, just 5,256 are women. This means that a shocking 65% of personal trainers are men and that only around 35% are women! In response to this, we're making it our aim put women back on the personal training map, and demonstrate why gaining a fitness instructor qualification is the best option for you this year!
Flexible career choice
Personal training is a very flexible career option for women, with the majority being self-employed. Ladies juggling childcare have ample opportunity to teach classes and coach clients one-to-one during school hours, and many find early or late shifts allow them to work flexi-hours. What's more, there are women of all ages completing the training courses. From graduates to mums in their 40s, the fitness industry offers a wide range of excellent career opportunities for women.
Choice of courses
The Training Room course will qualify you with a REPs recognised Level 3 Certificate in Personal Training including a Level 2 Gym Instructor Award and Certificates in Group Cycling, Sports Nutrition, Gym-based Boxing and Circuit Training. What's more there are three course options for the maximum training flexibility. Clearly there's plenty of scope to choose from!
Female role models
Like many of us, the Chief Executive of the Women's Sport and Fitness Foundation, Sue Tibballs, would also like to see more female personal trainers. "We know that women and girls need strong sporting role models to inspire them to get fit and more female personal trainers can only be a good thing," she says. "It's a great time for women to get involved in the fitness industry - successful female athletes, like Jessica Ennis and Laura Trott, have made it aspirational to be fit and healthy and women's fitness is finally entering the mainstream."
So come on girls, make your mark on 2013 and become a personal trainer!
Notes to Editors
-- The Training Room runs Level 2 Fitness Instructor and Level 3 Personal Trainer Courses through fast-track and time-part courses as well as pioneering a new flexible e-learning programme.-- Unlike other training programmes, the Training Room's support doesn't finish once students have graduated. All graduates are given access to an exclusive job board, with vacancies posted by some of the biggest organisations in the industry.
