The Do Something awards are around the corner (Aug. 21) so get your votes in now while you still can.
DoSomething.org is a nonprofit a mission to motivate young people to take action in their community and beyond. This year the organization teamed with VH-1 to honor these young achievers. Do Something's CEO is Nancy Lublin, who founded Dress for Success in 1996.
Shakira, one of our favorite Latinas, is up for a Do Something award under the music artist category. Shakira is being recognized for a recent trip to India where she met with girls from impoverished parts of India to educate the young girls on the importance of educating and empowering girls to break the cycle of poverty.

She is up against the following artists:
Adam Lambert: The American Idol alum supports several charities including Charity: Water, the Donor Project, The Red Cross, the Trevor Project and the It Gets Better Project.
Will.i.am: Through his charity I.am.ANGEL, in 2012, the musician supported the reformation of one of Los Angeles's worst neighborhoods, Boyle Heights with the TRANS4M Boyle Heights, supported by a $1-million grant from Chase Bank.
Katy Perry: Katy stepped up to give the victims of the tornado in Joplin, MO the prom of their dream by supporting The Joplin Prom Project and cheerleading local sponsors to donate flowers, decorations, pictures, tuxedos and dresses.
Taylor Swift: Taylor performed "Speak Now," a benefit for victims of recent tornadoes in the United States southeast, donated $250k to Nick Saban's charity Nick's Kids, and is active with charities like The Make-A-Wish Foundation, St. Jude Medical Center and Habitat for Humanity.
One Direction: The UK band donated a recipe to The Dish For a Wish Cookbook to raise money for Rays of Sunshine, a charity that makes wishes come true for terminally and seriously ill children.
The award show will be hosted by the male actors of Fox's comedy New Girl -- Jake Johnson, Max Greenfield and Lamorne Morris. Last year's emcee was Jane Lynch.
The 2012 Do Something Awards will be presented at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica airing on Tuesday, Aug. 21 on VH1.
