CrossFit Pacific Coast is hosting a fundraiser, Day4Daisy at its Santa Barbara, Calif., location on Aug. 25.
The funder will raise money for Daisy Love Merrick who is living with cancer. Merrick is a Carpinteria, Calif., resident and is 7 years old now, but was diagnosed when she was a tender 5 years old.
Merrick has had to go through multiple lengthy surgeries to try and remove a Wilms tumor, which has changed in size, and has taken up most of her abdominal cavity.
April 11 was the most recent surgery, and while the tumor was only the size of a golf ball (previously it had been the size of a grapefruit), the operation required that her spleen be removed as well. She survived the surgery, but she faces more treatment.
According to the Day4Daisy website, the next steps include chemotherapy and a possible stem cell transplant. Her parents are pursuing both traditional and progressive cancer treatments in America and Israel. The estimated cost not covered by insurance will total close to half a million dollars.
That is why CrossFit Pacific Coast is hosting this fundraiser in her honor. So far, more than 60 athletes athletes and sponsors have donated more than $7,000 for the Merrick family.
All are welcome to attend and participate in the CrossFit workout. Registration for athletes is $30. Donors and business sponsors also are welcomed to donate to Merrick in hopes that she fully recovers.
