HNBA Announces Seattle Convention Awards

The Hispanic National Bar Association will present several prestigious awards during its 37th annual convention at the Sheraton Seattle Hotel, the HNBA announced.

The convention is the HNBA's flagship event, with a portfolio of activities and events for legal professionals and students. Hosted by the Latina/o Bar Association of Washington, this year's convention promises to be the largest gathering of Latino lawyers, judges, and law students in the U.S.

"We are proud of the recipients of the awards that will be presenting at our Seattle convention for their extraordinary accomplishments, contributions and breadth of engagement," said HNBA National President Benny Agosto.

All of the awards listed below are awarded by the HNBA with the exception of the prestigious Ohtli Award. The Ohtli Award is presented by the government of Mexico to an attorney who has made a significant impact on the Latino community in the U.S.

Roman Hernandez (Schwabe, Williamson & Wyatt) - Ohtli Award (Award of Mexican Government)

Microsoft Corporation - Corporate Partner of the Year

Hon. M. Teresa Sarmina (Common Pleas Court Judge for Philadelphia County, PA) - Latina Judge of the Year

Hon. Adalberto Jordan (US CT of Appeals for the 11(th) Circ.) - Latino Judge of the Year

Marianela Peralta (Walmart) - Latina Lawyer of the Year

Richard Negrin (Managing Dir, City of Phila, PA) - Latino Lawyer of the Year

Hispanic Law Students Association at FIU College of Law - Law Student Organization of the Year

Hon. Patricio Serna (Justice, New Mexico Supreme Court) - Lifetime Achievement

Juan Sempertegui (Carr Maloney) - Regional President of the Year

Hispanic Bar Association of the District of Columbia (HBA-DC) - Affiliate Organization of the Year

Hispanic Bar Association of the New Jersey (HBA-NJ) - Affiliate Organization of the Year

Christina Guerola Sarchio (Patton Boggs) - Pro Bono Award - Individual Category

Lowenstein Sandler PC - Pro Bono Award - Large Law Firm Category

Schroeter, Goldmark, and Bender - Pro Bono Award - Small Law Firm Category

ExxonMobil Corporation - Pro Bono Award - Corporate Law Dept. Category

"The individuals, law firms and corporations have distinguished themselves in their endeavors and commitments to the community at large," Agosto said. "On behalf of the HNBA board of governors, I congratulate them and wish them continued success."

The HNBA is an incorporated, not-for-profit, national membership organization that represents the interests of the more than 100,000 Hispanic attorneys, judges, law professors, legal assistants and law students in the U.S. and its territories.
