Anaheim police said they arrested nine people as more than 200 demonstrators gathered in front of police headquarters to protest police shootings.

Both protesters and police asked for a more peaceful demonstration Sunday than what occurred Tuesday night when a crowd of about 1,000 people threw rocks and bricks at officers, the Los Angeles Times reported.

"We don't want to see another Tuesday night," said George Olivio, an organizer with Occupy Orange County.

At one point the group attempted to march on nearby Disneyland, but officers corralled them, the Times reported.

Police arrested eight men Sunday when they failed to disperse or blocked traffic after they were warned to get out of the street, officials said. The ninth arrest was a woman who allegedly assaulted people at a nearby gas station, the Times reported.

Protests against police conduct in Anaheim have been ongoing since July 21 when police fatally shot Manuel Diaz, 25, who was unarmed, the Los Angeles Times reported.

The next day, Joel Acevedo, 21, was shot and killed by police who said the suspect fired at them first during a chase.

Police Friday shot at robbery suspects though no one was apparently injured in the incident.

Friday's shooting marks the seventh time police have opened fire in Anaheim this year, five of which have resulted in fatalities.
