Project Management Group (PMG) LLC in Houston has been recognized as the eighth fastest growing business in the urban cities by Inner City 100.
With more than 2,000 nominations received throughout the country, the top 100 were recognized at the National Convention of ICIC in Boston this month.
PMG was nominated by the city of Houston for the major contributions and for playing a significant role in many high-profile projects, including the renovation of Houston Police Crime Lab, Houston Police Evidence Room, expansion of Hobby Airport, expansion of METRO Light Rail, and the recovery efforts following Hurricanes Katrina, Rita and Ike.
In 2009, PMG was the recipient of METRO's "Business of the Year" award.
PMG is run by Ben Mendez and Vladimir Naranjo. They perform as construction managers, general contractors and providers of energy efficiency solutions. With 26 employees, PMG grew 91 percent in the past 5 years.
For the past 7 years, the PMG Team has provided management in projects of high importance in public facilities, transportation, education, disaster recovery, housing and energy markets. Some of their clients include the U.S. Federal Government, State of Texas, City of Houston, Houston Airport System, Houston Police Department, Houston Parks Department, Harris County and the Houston Independent School District.
Mendez serves on numerous boards, including the American Red Cross. He is the founder of the National Hispanic Professional Organization (NHPO), a national networking organization. In addition, Mendez founded the Leadership Institute, a program designed to assist individuals in their quest to become effective board members for nonprofit organizations.
Recently, Mendez was elected as Chairman for the Texas Association of Mexican American Chambers of Commerce (TAMACC), a statewide chamber of commerce. Mendez is also a television host for Latino Talk TV, a weekly community based live television show that covers hot topics of the day. Mendez earned his associates degree from Houston Community College in 1989. In 1994, he earned his mechanical engineering degree from the University of Houston.
Naranjo, managing partner, is a licensed professional engineer (civil) in Texas and managing partner of PMG Project Management Group, LLC. He has more than 18 years of experience in the construction, engineering and energy efficiency industries. He specializes in program/project management, project controls, code compliance and project administration for projects in the United States and abroad. Prior to joining PMG, Naranjo served as the chief engineer for Houston, General Services Department, Design and Construction Divison. Naranjo currently serves on the national board of the National Association of Minority Contractors (NAMC) and is the vice president of the NAMC Houston Chapter. Naranjo holds a bachelor degree in civil engineering from Columbia and a master's degree in business administration from the University of Houston.
