All the world's biggest economies must
do their part in strengthening the flagging global economy, German
Chancellor Angela Merkel said Monday before the G20 summit in Mexico.
"Everyone here at the world economic conference still has to do
their homework," Merkel said.
European leaders at the summit would present a united front,
according to the chancellor, who said they would make it clear that
problems within the eurozone and growth problems in the European
Union as a whole would be addressed decisively, and that a growth
pact would be agreed.
Protectionist measures in G20 countries were "absolutely terrible
for the development of global growth," she added.
Other issues that needed to be addressed were financial market
regulation and the implementation of previously agreed measures to
redistribute power at the International Monetary Fund in favour of
developing countries.
