The number of people out of work in the
eurozone hit a new record in April, with 17.4 million people on the
hunt for a job, fresh data released on Friday showed.
That was 110,000 people more than in March, according to Eurostat,
the European Union's statistics agency.
The unemployment rate in the 17-member single currency bloc
nevertheless remained steady at 11 percent, after Eurostat revised
the rate for March upward from its previously announced 10.9 percent.
The outcome for April was in line with analysts' forecasts.
The unemployment rate in the 27-member E.U. also crept up, from 10.2
percent in March to 10.3 percent in April, with a total of 24.7
million people out of work.
