Chicago-based Groupon said Tuesday that it has acquired Breadcrumb, a New York-based startup that makes point-of-sale software for the hospitality industry.
Financial terms were not disclosed. Groupon said Breadcrumb founder Seth Harris and his team, a group numbering fewer than 10, will be joining the company as part of the acquisition.
Breadcrumb's technology works on iPads and other devices that run Apple's iOS operating system. It is designed for hospitality oriented businesses such as bars and restaurants, and the software helps clients with tasks such as order entry, check management, payment and staff management. Groupon said the company will continue servicing current customers and extending their offering to new ones.
"Also, for Groupon merchant partners that use Breadcrumb's point of sale system, we'll be able to significantly improve the process of redeeming a Groupon," Mihir Shah, Groupon's vice president of mobile, wrote in a blog post.
Groupon has made more than a dozen acquisitions in the last year, mostly buying smaller technology companies with expertise in local commerce and other fields.
