2000 - Football star Troy Aikman and publicist Rhonda Worthay, in Plano, Texas. The wedding ceremony was an intimate gathering of the couple's family and close friends, and a larger group was invited to the reception. Many members of the Dallas Cowboys organization attended, including Daryl Johnston, Bill Bates, Emmitt Smith, Mark Stepnoski, Kevin Gogan and special teams coach Joe Avezzano. The couple has two children together and announced their separation in 2011.

1994 - Las Vegas entertainer Wayne Newton and lawyer Kathleen McCrone, in Las Vegas. The bridesmaids wore black to the disapproval of some critics. This was Newton's second marriage. The couple met at one of Newton's performances. They have one daughter together.

1966 - Actress Sophia Loren and producer Carlo Ponti, in Sevres, France. Carlo and Sophia met in 1950 when she was just 16 years old. He, then 37, was a judge in the "Miss Roma" contest, where she placed second. Within a short time, he became her manager and proposed in 1954. The couple was married by the Mayor of Sevres in a civil ceremony in the city hall following a 1957 marriage that was not recognized because Carlo's first marriage was not final.

1984 - Baseball player Pete Rose and Carol J. Wollung. The couple have two children together. They divorced in March 2011. This was Rose's second marriage.

1981 - Actor Cary Grant and Barbara Harris, in Beverly Hills, Calif. Grant married long-time companion, British hotel PR agent Barbara Harris, who was 47 years younger than him. The couple renewed their vows on their fifth wedding anniversary. This was Grant's fifth wedding.

1981 - Actor Sean Bean and hairstylist Debra James. James was Bean's childhood girlfriend. This was the first of Bean's four weddings and divorces. Bean and James divorced in 1990.

1981 - Rocker Eddie Van Halen and actress Valerie Bertinelli. The two met in 1980, when Bertinelli went backstage after a Van Halen concert in Shreveport, La. The wedding guest list included 450 friends and family members. The couple divorced in 2007.

1978 - Singer Aretha Franklin and actor Glynn Turman, in Detroit. Franklin's father performed the marriage ceremony at his church, the New Bethel Baptist Church in Detroit. The couple divorced in 1984. They remained friends and Franklin sang the theme song for his show "A Different World" in the late 1980s.

1911 - Actress Mae West and actor Frank Wallace, in Milwaukee. West kept the marriage a secret, but in 1935, after she had made several hit movies, a filing clerk discovered West's marriage certificate and alerted the press. She obtained a legal divorce in 1943 and insisted they never lived as husband and wife.

2001 - Singer Gladys Knight and William McDowell, in California. This was Knight's fourth marriage. The wedding was a well-kept secret, with Knight's publicist only learning about the ceremony on the day of the wedding.

1997 - Country singer Travis Tritt and Theresa Nelson, in Marietta, Ga. More than 300 guests attended the wedding which took place on Tritt's estate, including recording artists Tanya Tucker, Lari White, and Gary Rossington of Lynyrd Skynard.
