So you've got your spring break vacation planned to the beach or to Walt Disney World, your luggage is packed, the vehicle is checked out and ready to go.
But what about the pets?
"We get a lot of last-minute requests to board animals," said Tina Alexander, office manager at All Animal Hospital in Tupelo. "And there's always a waiting list."
Boarding dogs and cats -- along with birds, lizards and guinea pigs -- is something veterinary clinics do all the time.
Holidays and summer are high-demand times, and with spring break just around the corner, kennel staffers hope families don't forget their animal friends.
"As of today, we still have some openings," said Dilworth Small Animal Hospital kennel manager Jennifer Millsap. "We take reservations and we have walk-ins, but we're usually filled by the time spring break arrives."
A combination of "inside runs" and "outside runs" for dogs are typically available at vet clinics, and separate facilities are available for cats, too.
Prices vary depending on length of stay.
While mom, dad and the kids are checking into a hotel or condo somewhere, their pets are doing the same.
Pets are fed regularly wherever they're boarded, and if they're dogs, they'll get to romp and play a few times a day, too.
"On average, we're about 50 percent full, but we'll fill up by next week" said Millsap.
At Saltillo Small Animal Hospital, there are no more vacancies for spring break.
Kennel manager Debbie Feist said there were a few available at the beginning of the week, but they were quickly filled.
"We're booked," she said. "We have only 20 runs, and every holiday we're filled up."
Its larger sister clinic, Tupelo Small Animal Hospital, had plenty of openings Friday morning, but they, too, are expected to be filled soon.
Veterinary tech Lindze Hill said about 80 of the 130 openings were spoken for.
Back at All Animal, Alexander said pet owners are welcome to tour the facilities if they're not sure of the accommodations. They're also welcome to bring along any of their pet's toys.
"They can bring anything they want to make them comfortable," she said.
That way, while the human family is relaxing, so can their canine and feline friends.
