The Hispanic Leadership Network (HLN), a center-right advocacy action group, today announced the agenda and other confirmed speakers of its "Small Business Invitational: Promoting the Drivers of Economic Growth." The invitational will be held April 4 at the Renaissance Hotel in Las Vegas, Nev. Gov. Brian Sandoval will deliver the keynote address, focusing on the state's economic outlook.
The day's events will kickoff with a business expo, during which Nevada's Latino entrepreneurs will have a venue to exhibit their small businesses and engage in networking. The invitational will also feature an advocacy panel on the state and federal laws that impact small businesses and the ways in which Hispanic advocates can make a difference. Panelists include:
-- Congressman Joe Heck, Nevada's 3rd Congressional District. Before being
elected to the U.S. House of Representatives, Dr. Heck was a small
business owner. As President and Medical Director of Specialized Medical
Operations, Inc., he oversaw a corporation dedicated to providing
quality medical training, consulting, and operational support to Law
Enforcement, EMS and Military Special Operations.
-- Jovita Carranza, former Deputy Administrator, Small Business
Administration. After being unanimously confirmed by the U.S. Senate,
Ms. Carranza served at SBA from December 2006 to January 2009. Prior to
her appointment, she was Vice President for Air Operations for UPS, the
world's largest package delivery company. In that post, Ms. Carranza was
the highest-ranking Latina in the company's history.

"We are thrilled to have such a distinguished group of panelists join Governor Sandoval in our small business invitational in Las Vegas to discuss some of the most pressing issues for Nevada's Latino entrepreneurs, said HLN Executive Director Jennifer Sevilla Korn. "Nevada is home to more than 177,000 small businesses, of which 18% are Hispanic-owned. We want to empower them so that they can continue to make a difference not only in the economic development of their state, but in that of our country," she added.
