Hispanics "are scoring bigger job gains than most other demographic groups and proving to be a bright spot in the fledgling recovery," the Los Angeles Times reported.
Labor Dept. figures indicate that Hispanics accounted for half the job gains since early 2010, when the economy started adding jobs, the Times reported, yet Hispanics account for only 15 percent of the U.S. labor force.
The figures the Times cites show that 60 percent of the new jobs were filled by Hispanics, particularly in the food service, manufacturing and health care sectors.
A study by the Pew Hispanic Center indicates that median household wealth among Hispanics dropped by two-thirds from 2005-09. Whites saw a drop in income of only 16 percent during the same time period, according to the study.
In January, the unemployment rate among Hispanics stood at 10.5 percent, its lowest rate in three years.
Among all demographics, only Hispanics have returned to pre-recession unemployment levels.
