Many companies seek out employers through the Internet and essentially screen them there, as well, as job seekers are asked more often to submit applications and resumes online.
Some of the popular job sites, such as Careerbuilder. com, midgeorgiahelp wanted.com and Monster.com, feature listings that might be exclusive to their sites. Others, such as Indeed.com, serve as a clearinghouse of sorts, pulling in listings for a number of sources, including employers.
Careerbuilder and some other sites allow you to post your resume and include some online help and resources.
Almost all the sites, however, can be a bit misleading. For example, a search on Monster.com on Friday showed 391 jobs in the Macon area, but a number of them were in Warner Robins and other midstate areas -- and from as far as Peachtree City and Jefferson.
Most of the sites duplicate listings, meaning they might be found on more than one website and that they might show up multiple times on the same site. Also, job seekers should know that on some sites, a great many of the listings include the standard "assemble from home" types.
Here's a sampling of some of the positions listed on some of the job and employer websites. Visit the sites for more information.
