First lady Michelle Obama will be in Charlotte, N.C., March 2 to help raise money for the upcoming Democratic National Convention there, a convention official told the Charlotte Observer.
She'll headline two fundraisers.
In the afternoon, she'll be at $12,500-per-couple event at the Ballantyne Hotel featuring a performance by North Carolina's own James Taylor.
Then, that evening, she'll attend a reception, with tickets starting at $250 per person. That'll also be at the Ballantyne Hotel and also feature songs by Taylor.
Proceeds from both events will go to Charlotte's host committee -- formally known as the Committee for Charlotte 2012 -- to help reach the $36.65 million total the committee has agreed to raise.
The committee can accept individual contributions of up to $100,000, but is operating under new rules imposed by the Democratic National Convention Committee that exclude cash contributions from lobbyists, political action committees (PACs) and corporations.
Though the host committee has declined to say how much money it has raised so far, those restrictions -- and the sour economy -- have made it more difficult. Having the First Lady come to Charlotte should help.
Anyone interested in attending either of the events can call the Committee in Charlotte in 2012 at 704-444-8343.
