The parents of a Florida man killed in a 2010 crash have the right to information about a billionaire's adoption of his longtime girlfriend, a judge has ruled.
Circuit Judge Glenn Kelley of Palm Beach County said attorneys for Lili and William Wilson can examine the adoption of Heather Laruso Hutchins, 42, by John Goodman, the billionaire founder of the International Polo Club, The Palm Beach (Fla.) Post reported Wednesday.
Goodman is being sued by the Wilsons for the wrongful death of their 23-year-old son Patrick who died after Goodman ran a stop sign on Feb. 12, 2010, the police report said.
Attorneys for the Wilsons charge Goodman's adoption of their son's longtime girlfriend is an attempt to shield his assets from the couple's civil suit.
His attorney Dan Bachi said the adoption was done to ensure the future stability of Goodman's children and family investments and has nothing to do with the civil suit.
Kelley referred to the adoption as "surreal" in his order and said it takes the court into "a legal twilight zone."
