One U.S. immigration agent was killed and a second was seriously wounded in a shooting officials said was initiated by one of the agents in Long Beach, Calif.

Citing sources it did not identify, the Los Angeles Times reported the shooting broke out just before 6 p.m. PST Thursday at the Glenn M. Anderson Federal Building. An Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency officer is believed to have opened fire on his supervisor during a dispute at the federal building, law enforcement officials told the Times.

Another ICE agent fired at the gunman, who was pronounced at the scene, law enforcement officials told the newspaper. That agent was not injured.

In a statement issued late Thursday, ICE said two members of its Homeland Security Investigations unit were shot, and one had died at the scene while the second was transported to a hospital. The supervisor was being treated late Thursday at St. Mary Medical Center, the Times reported.

None of the victims had been identified by late Thursday.
