ATLANTA, GA -- (Marketwire) -- 12/17/12 -- Carvel® Ice Cream announced today that it has donated $50,000 to the American Red Cross for the Superstorm Sandy relief efforts. The funds raised support the ongoing Red Cross response to Sandy, and reach directly into affected communities through local Red Cross chapters.
Regional Vice President Mike DeStefano presented a check to the Red Cross at a Carvel shoppe in East Islip, New York that had been impacted by Sandy. With over 250 shoppes in the Northeast region, Carvel is dedicated to helping the local communities recover.
On Thursday, November 15th, Carvel shoppes hosted a "FREE Ice Cream" Day and gave out free soft serve cones to guests in their communities. To help raise funds for the Red Cross, they sold coupon books for $3 with proceeds going to benefit Superstorm Sandy relief efforts.
"The devastation and loss from Sandy is heart wrenching and we hope our efforts brought a little comfort to those affected," states Scott Colwell, president of Carvel.
The Red Cross has provided food, water, shelter, relief supplies, health care and more to millions affected by Sandy, and continues to help those hardest hit take the difficult steps toward recovery.
