
WELLS, BRITISH COLUMBIA -- (Marketwire) -- 12/11/12 -- Today, Dick Harris, Member of Parliament for Cariboo-Prince George, on behalf of the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, announced federal funding for the rehabilitation of the District of Wells Town Hall under the Harper Government's Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund (CIIF).
"Our Government is continuing to support communities across Canada by creating a strong foundation for growth and improving community spaces," said MP Harris. "This project will create jobs, growth and long-term prosperity in the District of Wells."
Federal funding of $31,300 will be used to undertake general rehabilitation of the town hall, including replacing decaying foundation walls, installing new floor joists, repairing rot damage, installing new posts and pads under supporting beams and building new walls.
As a result of this project, the building will benefit from modern components and materials that improve its overall safety and energy efficiency.
"The District of Wells is pleased to be the recipient of Western Economic Diversification's Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund grant to assist us in the rehabilitation of our town hall," said District of Wells Mayor Robin Sharpe. "The funding will allow for the restoration and continued use one of the heritage buildings which make our community unique."
CIIF supports, on a cost-shared basis, repairs and improvements to existing community infrastructure accessible to the public. Western Economic Diversification Canada (WD) is delivering the Fund in Western Canada with an allocation of $46.2 million over two years.
