Smith Foundation Gives Thanks with $100,000 in Grants

The Lloyd L. & Louise K. Smith Memorial Foundation awarded $100,000 in grants to local nonprofit organizations at its fall 2012 meeting.

The recipients are:

--Access Inc., for operating costs, $1,000.

--Akron Blind Center & Workshop Inc., for Knitting with a Vision program, $1,000.

--Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank, for operating expenses and operating endowment, $8,000.

--Akron Community Foundation, for the For Women Forever campaign to expand the Women's Endowment Fund, $1,000.

--Akron Inner City Soccer Club, for youth development/after-school soccer program and summer camp, $500.

--Akron Marathon Charitable Corp., for fundraising campaign, $500.

--Akron Pregnancy Services, for Life Center support, $500.

--Akron Zoological Park, for Mike & Mary Stark Grizzly Ridge, $1,000.

--Alaska Native Heritage Center Inc., for Cultural Competency program, $2,000.

--American Red Cross of Summit and Portage Counties, for medical transportation program, $1,000.

--Apollo's Fire/The Cleveland Baroque Orchestra, for Summit County series, $500.

--Big Brothers & Sisters of Summit & Medina Counties, for mentorship and adult role models, $1,000.

--Boy Scouts of America-Great Trail Council, for Pathfinder District Initiative, $7,000.

--Boys Hope Girls Hope -- Northeastern Ohio, for Hope Prep scholars in Summit County, $1,000.

--CASA Board Volunteer Association Inc., for volunteer initiatives, $1,000.

--Children's Concert Society of Akron, for general support, $1,000.

--Community Drug Board Inc. (Community Health Center), for adolescent treatment program, $1,000.

--Community Outreach Resources Exchange (CORE Furniture Bank), for general support, $1,000.

--Cuyahoga Valley Art Center, for roof replacement, $500.

--First Congregational Church of Akron, for Feed My Sheep Garden and playground project, $2,500.

--Friends of Historical Glendale Cemetery, for property improvements, $1,000.

--Girl Scouts of North East Ohio, for operating support for Summit County, $7,000.

--Good Neighbors Inc., for food for Food Center, $1,000.

--Goodwill Industries of Akron Inc., for general support, $5,000.

--Habitat for Humanity of Summit County Inc., for home builds, $1,000.

--Hope Homes Inc., for wheelchair bus, $500.

--Humane Society of Greater Akron (Pawsibilities), for emergency medical care, $1,000.

--Interfaith Caregivers Program (Faith in Action), for operations, $1,000.

--International Soap Box Derby, for college scholarships program, $1,000.

--Invent Now Inc., for Summit County Camp Invention, $1,000.

--Junior Achievement of North Central Ohio, for support of Summit County classrooms, $1,000.

--Keep Akron Beautiful, for Green Choice summer field experience, $1,000.

--Leadership Akron, for general support, $1,000.

--Let's Grow Akron Inc., for operations, $1,000.

--Magical Theatre Co., for operations, $1,500.

--Musical Arts Association, for Blossom Festival, $8,000.

--NAMI Summit County, for hair care program, $500.

--Oak Clinic for Multiple Sclerosis, for home safety assessment program, $1,000.

--Oasis Outreach Opportunity Inc., for The Way program, $500.

--Ohio Outdoor Historical Drama Association (Trumpet in the Land), for Living History education program, $500.

--Ohio Vietnam Veterans Memorial Park, for POW/MIA reflecting pond, $500.

--Opportunity Parish Ecumenical Neighborhood-Ministry (OPEN-M), for operations, $1,000.

--Pegasus Farm, for equine-assisted therapy for special-needs children who live in Summit County, $1,000.

--Progress Through Preservation Inc. (Preservation Alliance of Greater Akron), for administrator/operating expenses, $1,000.

--Project Grad Akron, for Summer College Institutes programs, $500.

--Rape Crisis Center, for direct service advocacy program, $1,000.

--Rebuilding Together Summit County, Inc. (Greater Cuyahoga Valley), for program year support, $1,000.

--Tuesday Musical Association, for Canadian Brass concert in April 2013, $5,000.

--Twinsburg School District, for Project STAR reading program, $500.

--United Way of Summit County, for annual campaign, $15,000.

--Urban Vision, for books for one-on-one reading program, $500.

--Victim Assistance Program, for operation, $500.

--Weaver Sports Booster Club, for Summit County Special Olympics team uniforms and equipment, $1,000.

--Western Reserve Historical Society (Hale Farm & Village), for educational programming, $1,000.

--YMCA of Akron Ohio, for Partners with Youth annual campaign, $2,000.
