Turkey Day is upon us, well, nearly, and that means it is time for traditions like food, family and football.

While you enjoy the old ways, don't forget about new technology and the help and fun that you can call up literally at your fingertips: apps.

Would you like to know the exact order of floats and bands in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade? Now you can. Do you need help with recipes, cooking times or other preparation questions? Of course there are plenty of apps to offer advice.

Heck, even if you need a distraction for the kids, there are apps that offer games and other activities with a holiday theme.

Here are a few you might want to check out:

--For $4.99, you can purchase "How to Cook Everything", an app that has thousands of recipes. Tanya Menoni reports on about.com that there are Thanksgiving recipes for all the popular dishes, including classic roast turkey with stuffing, traditional cranberry sauce and, of course, pumpkin pie. You can download the app at iTunes.

"If this is your first time preparing a Thanksgiving meal, you'll also find lots of how-to content," Menoni writes. "The timing charts for defrosting and roasting turkeys are particularly helpful."

--The creators of Chow's "Thanksgiving Dinner Coach" report that this is an app that does one thing and one thing only: It walks you through Thanksgiving week, step by step, so everything comes out on time and tasting great.

It has step-by-step tutorials

with pictures on how to roast a turkey and make gravy and many other steps. Internet reports tell us that this app will even create a shopping list of items you will need and a cooking timer depending on the size of your bird.

--If watching a certain parade is part of your tradition, then the free "Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade App" might just be right up your alley. With a platform for iOS and Android as well as iPhone, this app provides a complete list of participants in the parade, the order they'll appear, a history of the event and traffic camera video that shows more views than just those available on TV.

--Appolicious.com tells us about the "Thanksgiving Greetings" app. It provides more than 20 Thanksgiving greetings cards and thoughts. It gives you access to poems and quotes and you can choose to be funny or spiritual or whatever you like. The cost is 99 cents and works with iPhones and iPod Touch.

There are plenty of other apps out there that can help you through the Thanksgiving holiday. A simple Internet search will bring up helpful suggestions and you can also browse app stores online.
