WASHINGTON, DC -- (Marketwire) -- 11/15/12 -- Reboot America, a national movement focusing America's leading corporations and emerging startups on innovative solutions to our country's greatest challenges, today announced the winners for its Reboot America Summit Startup Pitch Competition on November 9, 2012.
Reboot America, created by Startup DC in partnership with the Startup America Partnership and The NYSE Big StartUp, and sponsored by Microsoft and Verizon, is an initiative to connect large corporations and emerging startup companies across key industries for the purposes of collaboration and partnership.
Twenty-three startups, selected from all over the country, competed during the event with over 600 attendees. Startups presented in three categories: Democracy: Media, Advocacy and Politics; National Challenges: Energy, Education and Health; and Government: Public Sector Efficiency, National Security and Cyber Security.
The winners from each category Ruck.us (Democracy), WeRX (National Challenges) and Troop ID (Government) then competed against each other for the grand prize of $5,000 and an entry to Eureka Park at the 2013 International CES®. Eureka Park is the destination for budding entrepreneurs and startups. The 2013 CES is the world's largest annual innovation event and is scheduled for January 8-11 in Las Vegas.
Troop ID took top honors at the competition.
"Winning the pitch competition was the highlight of a unique and inspiring day," said Blake Hall, Co-founder and CEO of Troop ID. "The Summit was a tremendous opportunity to hear from thought leaders from a span of national issues and I made connections that I would not have otherwise had the opportunity to make."
"The Summit and pitch competition was a giant experiment and by all accounts a success," said Evan Burfield, Chairman of Startup DC. "The charge was to bridge connections between large corporations, startups and policymakers with a focus on key challenges, that when addressed, will make our nation stronger. In addition to the competition, startups and corporations had the opportunity to listen to some of America's top founders, executives, and policymakers discuss the big trends and what comes next in innovation. The startup pitches were impressive and we congratulate all of our presenters on their efforts to make an impact in these critical areas."
