MIAMI, Oct. 29, 2012 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ -- Sabores Autenticos, the Mexico Foundation in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture of Mexico, the renowned Chef Omar Covarrubias and the General Consulate of Mexico in Miami, will honor for the second occasion the Mexican Restaurant in the Miami area that have made an effort to safeguard and promote the culinary traditions of Mexico thus contributing to the effort of the Mexican Government to maintain the title that two years ago UNESCO granted to Mexican traditional cuisine as world's immaterial cultural heritage.
The Authentic Mexican Flavors Foundation promotes the consumption of genuine food products from Mexico, supporting suppliers, distributors and restaurants worldwide.
In an initiative with cultural and social content, the Mexican Ministry of Agriculture and The Authentic Mexican Flavors Foundation are seeking to increase the consumption of authentic Mexican products, particularly those originating from less developed regions of the country. The foundation also promotes and assists with the purchase of fresh processed and semi-processed foods, in international markets. The process will help increase Mexican farm produce and food exports, generate new jobs and improve the quality of life for Mexican in those regions.
The second award ceremony theme of the gala dinner will be "'The State Of Jalisco', its cuisine and ingredients," Chef Omar Covarrubias says: "The objective being to show is that Jalisco is much more than Mariachis and Tequila and it is one of the great producing states of agricultural and many, many products, like: pomegranate, dragon fruit, chia seeds, avocados, coffee, agave syrup, sauces, etc."
Jalisco is the only state that has a certified plant to export ostrich meat to the United States and recently has been certified to export pork to Japan.
This year the foundation will award the following restaurants from the Miami area:
I Love Tacos, La Migaja, Dona Raquel, Puerto Vallarta, Tenangos Taqueria, El Rancho Grande, Cheen-Huaye, Casa Frida, Taqueria Morelia y Con Sabor a Mexico
The Jalisco cuisine gala menu will be coordinated and prepared by the renowned Mexican Chef, based in Miami, Omar Covarrubias, owner of I love Tacos, Mexicanisimo gourmet and presenter of cooking TV shows, as well as guest David Salgado, owner of Parelelo 28 restaurant in Guadalajara, Jalisco and Jordi Salvatella also from Jalisco.
Creative concoctions will be created especially for this event by mixologist Jennifer Marrero, using typical spirits from Jalisco like tequila and raicilla.
About Chef Omar Covarrubias:
Born in Mexico City on August 24, 1969 and at a very young age he was already experimenting with traditional Mexican products at his family's hotel kitchen en Cuautla, Morelos, Mexico with the guidance and "secretos" of traditional "cocineras" from several regions of Mexico. He attended and graduated Johnson and Wales Culinary School in Florida. He was chosen as the Executive chef for governmental functions including gala dinner for Mexican president during his visit to the world economic forum in Davos, Switzerland.
