NComputing, the leader in end-to-end desktop virtualization solutions, today announced the winner of its latest Go Green Innovation Award, this time given to the government of Puerto Rico. The government was awarded for its commitment to conservation of the environment through the use of eco-friendly IT in computer systems. Honorable Luis Fortuno Burset, governor of Puerto Rico, and Sandra Torres López, president of the la Junta Telecomunicaciones of Puerto Rico (JRTC), were presented with the awards on October 16, 2012. This is NComputing's first Go Green Innovation award given in Latin America.

NComputing's Go Green Innovation Award pays tribute to those individuals, companies and organizations who continuously demonstrate leadership and allegiance in utilizing IT solutions that support sustainable initiatives.

The governor of Puerto Rico was singled out for the island's deployment of NComputing devices that are used with the Microsoft Windows MultiPoint Server 2011 operating system. The island's overall initiative is to provide all students and citizens Internet access in all public schools in each municipality, as well as the opening of free Internet cafes around the island, which includes over 200 schools and Internet centers in 78 municipalities.

The impact of the NComputing-Microsoft installations has allowed Puerto Rico to deliver a low-cost computing option with extremely low-energy consumption, at the best price and performance available. It is estimated that the government of Puerto Rico will see a five-year savings of over $15 million in electricity costs and over $24 million in hardware purchasing costs alone.

In addition, the president of JRTC of Puerto Rico was awarded for the implementation of low environmental impact and cost-savings to Puerto Rico. The agency was recognized on the basis of cost of equipment acquisition and lowering the carbon footprint through the use of electricity, gasoline, coal and carbon dioxide emission. Additionally, e-waste was lowered significantly through the use of NComputing and Microsoft technology. The JRTC project's goal was to install and enable Internet centers in the 78 municipalities of Puerto Rico. In November 2009, NComputing announced its alliance with Microsoft to collaborate on joint solutions for education customers. Since then, companies have installed the largest number of computing stations in Puerto Rico.
