A 13-pound baby and a 14-pound baby were born this week, one in Iowa and one in California.
Asher Stewardson, weighing in at 13 pounds, 13 ounces, arrived without surgery at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa, according to an Associated Press report.
The boy's mother, Kendall Stewardson, didn't want an epidural and didn't want to deliver her 13-pound baby by cesarean out of concern for his health.
Meanwhile, a 14-pounder was born at Natividad Medical Center in Los Angeles after two days of labor. Matthew Anthony Maldanado weighed in at 14 pounds, 3.6 ounces, according to Fox News.
Doctors had said Matthew would be big, but even they were impressed.
"They took him out," said his mother, Emily Maldanado, "and the doctor started saying, 'Damn,' so they put him on the scale."
The 14-pound baby was born via cesarean section.
