Basketball star Kevin Garnett plans to become a limited
shareholder in Rome soccer club AS Roma by investing some of his salary from
the NBA, Roma has announced.
The 35-year-old center for the Boston Celtics accepted an offer from
James Pallotta, a minority owner of the Celtics and one of four businessmen
who in August acquired control of the Rome club.
Thomas DiBenedetto, part owner of the Boston Red Sox baseball team, led
an American investor group in the purchase of Roma whose then-owner was
looking to unload the club to pay off a 277 million-euro bank debt.
In April, Miami Heat forward LeBron James joined the Fenway Sports Group
-- an investment group with the control stake and operates the Red Sox by
buying a small stake of Liverpool English soccer team.
