Rick Santorum will no longer be at the Mission Inn Resort & Club in Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla., on Saturday. Campaign officials said today the event has been canceled but would not specify why.
"When there are changes in the schedule, we don't question them because we know they're necessary," said Sunny Rinker, who's in charge of the Santorum campaign in Central Florida.
However, she said the former Pennsylvania senator will return to Florida on Sunday to continue campaigning until the all-important GOP primary on Tuesday. He's scheduled to speak on Sunday afternoon at the Dolphin Aviation in Sarasota and later that day at a Lincoln Day dinner in Charlotte County, Rinker said.
Saturday's cancellation came as a disappointment for Alan Winslow, the chair of the Republican Party of Lake County, which was co-hosting the event. His party isn't endorsing a candidate. But, Winslow, who was notified about the cancellation late in the week, said he wanted to educate and introduce voters to all candidates. He expected 600 to 700 people to attend the rally.
"I'm sorry. They would've had a good turnout," he said.
